Sinai, The Mountain of God Opens Friday

By June 22, 2015No Comments

Our new summer production, “Sinai, The Mountain of God” opens this Friday. I am getting to see this one from a very unique perspective. Normally, when Glenn has assembled his cast and begins rehearsals, I am in the vicinity. I hear and see bits and pieces as it develops, throwing in a word or two of input from the writer’s perspective. No so this time. I am going to get my first opportunity to see it, just like you, this week.

We have some of our favorites from the Ragtown acting troupe in this one. Glenn Polk, in addition to directing the play, will play Elijah. Oh my goodness! I know you’re going to love Elijah. David Brantley has done a wonderful job in several productions with us, portraying Satan in “Bethlehem” and “Pentecost.” He was also in “Mystery of the Hebrew Scribe” and “Deacon and The Pharisee.” I am really looking forward to seeing David Burk’s sweet and joyful heart reflected in his portrayal of Jesus in this production.

Jay Young will be turning in amazing performances on both sides of the curtain during this show…singing with the Ragtown Gospel Band, then reprising his wonderful characterization of Saul of Tarsus, which you’ll remember from “Deacon and the Pharisee.” What a gifted and delightful man Jay is. He is a blessing to all of us.

I love the message of “Sinai, The Mountain of God.” I have no doubt that this talented and committed cast is going to make it a memorable experience for all of us.

The main work on this set during the first few days of this month, then Robin and I left to spend a few days with Bill and Gloria Gaither at their Indiana headquarters, where I attended the Gaither Songwriting Workshop. Then we flew on to Laurel, Maryland, which is halfway between Washington D.C. and Baltimore. A couple of days later our daughter, Jency, gave birth to her first baby…a beautiful little boy named Orynn. She and Thomas are ecstatic about being parents. DaddyPop and Birdie are pretty over the moon too.

Okay…yeah, I have a picture.

If you’ve been coming to Ragtown for awhile, you’ll remember that Jency sang with the band for several years before falling headlong in love and marrying the man of her dreams. It seems that people’s lives have a way of reconfiguring the group, and that continues to happen. It is something even Bill Gaither deals with, from what I gathered.

We’ve been rehearsing non-stop for the new concert since I got back, and I think you’re going to really like the new music we’ve put together for this show. Click over and purchase your tickets. Bring some people to share the experience. It is going to be one you love.
